The Practice

Sports Medicine

Concentrating on functional capacity enhancement sets AHS apart from other establishments. While many set their goals on relieving pain, we believe in enhancing function in order to put you back in the game (or back to work)! With great detail to functional evaluation, we pride ourselves in finding the cause of your dysfunction rather than diagnosing and treating the symptom.

Example:

A high school sprinter complains of low back pain. Rather than diagnosing her with "lumbalgia", "low back pain", or "lumbar sprain/strain", we search for the cause of this pain. How many miles are you running each week? What surface are you running on? What kind of shoes are you wearing? Are weak hamstrings causing gluts and low back muscles to overcompensate thus overworking them? Let's test the integrity of the deep spinal stabilizers.

Not only do we treat sports injury, but specialize in functional enhancement and injury prevention!

Example:

Hurdler is not getting a fast enough leg lift when striding over hurdles. Solution? Test strength and endurance of various hip flexors (psoas major, rectus femoris, TFL). Strengthen and/or stretch muscles as needed.
